Kaylan Smith is the Founder and CEO of Legacy Healthcare. Growing up in Lawton Oklahoma Kaylan was heavily involved in his church, music, and sports. In 2008, he made the decision only 1% of Americans are brave enough to make and joined the Army. In the beginning he struggled as a soldier, but quickly found his feet and began to excel in the Military Police Corps. After completing Basic, AIT and Airborne School; Kaylan went on to be stationed at Ft. Richardson Alaska and serve one deployment in Afghanistan. After completing his service he moved back to Oklahoma where he began his family, marrying his lovely wife Monique. They have been married since 2012 and have 5 sons together.
Trying to find his place in the workforce, Kaylan became a Personal Trainer and instantly fell in love with it! The aspect of being able to serve others, help clients achieve their health goals, have fun, and grow stronger appealed to him in every way. It was years later that Kaylan would work with a client who would change everything for him and everyone he would be destined to meet. Ms. Myrtle, being in her 80’s, was a victim of her after surgery rehab being cut short because her insurance didn’t cover her until she was sufficiently strong. Distraught and with no family in the immediate area to help her, she would sit around her home all day for almost a year before one of her sons moved back to help her. Soon after, she walked into the gym Kaylan was the trainer at and it was during the following sessions that Kaylan’s whole philosophy changed. It was then that he truly began to value the total health of a person over the looks of a person.
Legacy Healthcare is the first child of this knew way of coaching and serving others and is a company built on empowering, instructing, and encouraging others to live in optimum health. It is this belief that every person is a unique individual and every health plan must be uniquely tailored to meet their needs. There are no cookie cutter, one size fits all programs; only specialized programs for special people. Legacy Healthcare has a goal of helping all people achieve optimum health from the cradle to the grave.
Everyone who meets and interacts with Dr. Williams clearly sees the passion behind her teaching. It’s difficult to identify just one event that created the great love she has for science. At a young age, she would spend time in her grandmother’s garden with encyclopedias to identify and learn about the insects they found together. The quantity and variety of summer science camps she was able to attend as a child also made a huge impact. As a high school student she had amazing teachers that inspired her to work hard and shoot for the moon. As an educator now herself, Dr. Williams wants to enable her students to find their own passion for science.
As owner and founder of Busy Beetle Science, Dr. Williams is responsible for planning and teaching seven (and growing) regular classes. Each course has its own unique approach to teaching science with a customized curriculum. Her students are engaged in hands-on activities during a majority of the class periods. Activities are adapted by Dr. Williams to tailor advanced subject matter to the students’ age level for each lesson.
Her process ensures that students have an introductory exposure to numerous core topics (normally reserved for older students) in the fields of physics, chemistry, engineering, biology and math.
Dr. Williams founded Busy Beetle Science as a response to the changes in the world of education. It had become evident to her that the shift to virtual lectures were not adequate for many, if not most, of her students at the University of Central Oklahoma. The STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) fields have a vital hands-on component. Biology is difficult enough to teach without the ability to provide supplemental in person demonstrations. Physics and chemistry would be found even more lacking without them. Therefore, she created Busy Beetle science to ensure that students who desired hands-on education in these fields would have an opportunity to receive it. Busy Beetle science focuses on students ages 4 – 18. These ages suffer even more than college students without labs, demonstrations, participation and experimentation. Dr. Williams strives to provide in-person education that is engaging and appropriate for these age groups.
